우리는 살면서 종종 갈등을 느낀다. 이걸 먹고 싶은데 살이 찔까, 이걸 사고 싶은데 돈이 없네… 와 같은 사소한 갈등에서부터 먹고 살기 위해 정말 이런 것까지 해야하나… 와 같은 갈등에까지 우리의 삶은 이러한 크고 작은 갈등들로 뒤덮여있다. 개인적으로도 이러한 고민과 갈등을 삶에서 마주하는데, 그럴때마다 이러한 갈등들은 내면에 크고 작은 소동을 일으킨다. 때로는 이로부터 도피해보기도 하지만, 나의 자리로 돌아와 그것을 마주하기 위해 노력한다. 그것은 나의 삶이기 때문이다.
갈등을 일으키는 것이 자리하는 곳, 곧 우리의 내부와 내부를 나타내는 “Inside, Outside”를 작품의 제목으로 삼았다. 이 작품에서 우리가 마주하는 이러한 갈등을 가벼운 터치로 드러내고 싶었기에 유쾌한 느낌으로 상황과 갈등, 느낌과 반응, 행동들 사이를 넘나들듯이 모티브와 음악적 장면과 음악적 배경들을 자유롭게 가로지르며 전개되도록 이끌었다. 이를 통해 내면과 현실 사이의 갈등을 조금 더 유희적인 태도로 접근함으로써 삶에 생기를 불러일으키고자 하였다.
Conflict is something we all experience in life. It may appear in trivial forms—Should I eat this, even if it makes me gain weight? I’d like to buy this, but I can’t afford it—or in heavier moments—Must I really go this far just to survive? Our lives are filled with such struggles, both large and small. I too encounter them in my own life, and each time they stir inner turbulence. At times I try to run away, yet I always return and face them—because they are inseparable from who I am.
This is the spirit behind the title Inside, Outside: the space where conflict takes root, within us and all around us. In writing this work, I wanted to reveal these struggles in a lighter, almost playful way. Motifs, musical episodes, and textures slip freely between one another, like shifting moods—between situation and conflict, feeling and reaction, action and consequence. By approaching the tension between inner life and outer reality with a touch of humor and play, I hoped to reawaken a sense of vitality in the midst of life’s contradictions.
